The first look poster of Malayalam actor Joju George’s latest film Iratta began trending on Twitter, just minutes after its release. The movie, which has the Nayattu actor essaying a double role for the first time in his career, is helmed by debutant Rohit MG Krishnan.

The poster featured Joju in both his avatars – one as a serious man while the other wears a police uniform along with a smiling countenance to boot. In an exclusive chat with OTTplay, Rohit, who had previously directed a few short films, tells us, “Joju chettan’s characters are twins in the movie and it deals with their relationship. It’s essentially a police story. Giving out the genre of the film will also spoil the suspense.”

Apart from Joju, the movie also has Tamil actress Anjali, Srinda, Arya Salim, Sreekanth Murali, Sabumon Abdusamad, Sarath Sabha and Abhiram as part of the cast.

Iratta, which has Jakes Bejoy as its composer and Vijay as its cinematographer, is produced by Joju, Sijo Vadakkan and filmmaker Martin Prakkat, whose previous movie Nayattu also had the actor essaying the role of a police officer.

On how the project took shape, Rohit says, “I have been pitching stories to a lot of people for the past 10 years. I had begun scripting Iratta in 2017 and back then Sajid Yahiya had agreed to produce the film. That’s how Joju chettan came onboard. But after the pandemic and things were tight, there was a change in producers and Joju chettan said he will produce it along with Martin chettan.”

The movie is expected to hit theatres soon. “We are aiming at a January end or February release, but we are yet to confirm the date,” says the filmmaker. The film has Manu Antony as its editor and Dileep Antony heading its art department.
