Is Raj B Shetty all set to direct Dulquer Salmaan in his next directorial project?

As a director, Raj B Shetty is all of three films old – Ondu Motteya Kathe, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana and Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye – the last of which came out in November 2023, almost 2 years ago. In the interim, Raj has been busy as an actor, doing as many as 3 Malayalam films, Turbo, Kondal and Rudhiram, as well as two Kannada films, 45 and Landlord. During the promotions of his film Turbo he had spoken about working on the scripts of two of his associates before he goes back to direction – a comedy and a love story.

Raj, who is basking in the success of his production, Su From So, was recently asked about when he will return to direction and if he is, in fact, collaborating with Dulquer Salmaan, with whom he already has a professional relationship of distributing each other’s films in the respective regions. In conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, Raj clarified that he is not directing Dulquer.

Raj B Shetty: Don't think I will ever direct a star

He explained, “I can’t direct stars; the thing is, I can’t wait for their dates. It’s such a painful process for me. Cinema has been very personal for me; the moment it becomes about waiting for people, or approvals, it becomes difficult. I can’t operate in such a space. I don’t think I will ever direct a star film,” he said, adding that he’d rather make small films, preferably with new actors.

As for his next project, Raj divulges that he is writing a thriller, as he does not want to repeat the genres he has worked on in such a short span. Besides that, Raj has also written the script for a web series that’s been in discussion for a while. The actor-filmmaker is not sure if it will actually take off. It was earlier reported that Raj was committed to do a web series for Sony LIV, after the platform picked up the streaming rights of Toby. There’s been no other development in the 2 years hence.
