Backed by Kamal Haasan under his home banner, and directed by Sivakumar Murugesan, the film’s teaser was released only on Tuesday to celebrate Sivakarthikeyan’s 40th birthday. While fans are thoroughly impressed by the teaser glimpse which was released, some also drew comparisons to a certain cult Kamal Haasan film, which also found its way a mention in Seyon teaser.

Seyon is an upcoming Tamil film starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. The film’s glimpse was released by the makers on social media on Tuesday for the occasion of the actor’s birthday. Seyon marks the return of Sivakarthikeyan to rural genre. It is to be noted that while the actor experimented with commercial scripts like Parasakthi, Maaveeran, Ayalaan and Doctor in the recent, Sivakarthikeyan’s early career path had rural flicks like Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, Namma Veettu Pillai and Rajini Murugan which earned him a name in the industry.

Now with Seyon teaser confirming that it is a rural drama, and will have Sivakarthikeyan in an intense avatar, fans cannot stop comparing it to a Kamal Haasan film, which featured the latter as a rural ruffian sentenced to death. It is none other than the 2004 film Virumaandi, which was written, directed, produced by Kamal Haasan who also starred in the titular role.

Seeing the Seyon teaser, which shows Sivakarthikeyan as a villager who gets possessed by spirits, and shades of Virumaandi already kick in, fans were quick to point out how Sivakarthikeyan is wearing the same watch as Kamal Haasan did in the 2004 film.
