Shraddha Kapoor was cast as a shape-shifting serpent in the Vishal Furia-directed Naagin trilogy, it was revealed in late 2020. The franchise had naturally attracted a lot of interest upon its announcement for an industry that has enjoyed tremendous success with the theme, be it Sridevi's Nagina (1986) and Nigahen (1989), or television's popular series Naagin.
The movie, which was supposed to premiere this summer, has reportedly been delayed, according to reports in Mid Day. The tabloid stated that although Furia and Kapoor had begun workshops earlier this year, the project appeared to be experiencing financial difficulties.
A trade source told the tabloid that Naagin is a VFX-heavy film that was to be developed on a large budget. The project's creators wish to postpone it for the time being and revisit it later because of the present market dry spell. The movie was supposed to start shooting in May, but the stakeholders decided it would be best to wait.
In March, while talking about the project, Furia told the tabloid they needed specific locations for Naagin since the actors' performances are affected by the intensity of outside filming. The filmmaker also revealed that Shraddha decided she loved the idea after just one meeting and joined the team. They have had several meetings to discuss the screenplay and appearances. She enjoys the procedure a lot, and Naagin, want to hold workshops. It will take a lot of preparation because the character is unusual.
While talking about having a female lead, Furia shared that when a story is written with a male protagonist in mind rather than a female actor, the dynamics of the story are drastically altered. Actors like Nushrratt Bharuccha and Shraddha are intriguing choices when cast outside the norm, particularly if they are eager to go above and beyond. It is satisfying when an actor fully commits to the part and has entire faith in the director to elevate the character.
Meanwhile, after the release of Shraddha's yet-to-be-titled next with Ranbir Kapoor, the Luv Ranjan movie, if at all, will be pursued.
