Recently, we announced that filmmaker Mohan G, well known for Draupathi and Rudhra Thandavam, was directing Bakasuran. The latest information is that its filming is concluded. The director shared the news on Twitter, alongside a photo of the crew. Responding to Mohan's tweet, Selvaraghavan thanked him for the opportunity, and said he was touched by the former's warmth and affection.

Here's the tweet:

Bakasuran stars Selvaraghavan and Natty in lead roles. The makers are yet to announce the release date.

Bakasuran is Mohan G's fourth film after Pazhaya Vannarapettai, Draupathi, and Rudra Thandavam. GM Film Corporation is backing this one, which has music by Sam CS. Bakasuran went on floors in mid-April.

Mohan's Draupathi is believed to be a revenge story about a man who exposes and takes on a ‘fake marriage’ racket. Draupathi, the titular figure, is praised for upholding the 'respect' of her vamsam (lineage) or community. When she strips a guy to punish him for blackmailing a lady from her caste, Draupathi, too, adheres to a masculine/patriarchal notion of justice.

In Mohan's films, women are reduced to simple property and objects whose sole purpose is to protect a family's honour and carry along caste systems. One of his films had a problematic sexist narrative about women being incapable of making their own decisions and falling in love with anyone with an iPhone and a bike.

Rudra Thandavam addresses the larger issue of drug usage and addiction and makes reckless assumptions and false assertions to demonise underprivileged populations once more. The problematic component of Mohan G's films is not just the 'what' ideology they preach, but also the 'who' he employs as a platform to propagate them. Though the director may believe he has artfully positioned and hidden these ideals, the typical audience can see through the deceit from a mile away. Let’s see what Bakasuran has in store for us!
