This week was supposed to see the release of the Malayalam web series Jai Mahendran on the digital platform; however, its makers have delayed it for undisclosed reasons. The Saiju Kurup-starrer was slated to available on SonyLIV starting February 9. They have not confirmed an exact release date as of now.
Srikanth Mohan has directed the web series. The screenplay for Jai Mahendran has been penned by Rahul Riji Nair, who has directed Keedam and Kho-Kho. Aju Varghese’s Kerala Crime Files - Shiju, Parayil Veedu, and Neendakara, which is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, was produced by Rahul, who made his directing debut in 2017 with Ottamuri Velicham, which has won him the Kerala State Film Award.
Jai Mahendra tells the story of Mahendran, a crafty government officer in a Taluk office, who achieves his goals through powerplay and his connections within the system. But when he falls prey to the same power game, his freedom at work is curtailed, and his beliefs are called into question.
He intends to manipulate a whole system to his benefit in an effort to keep his job and rebuild his reputation. Whether Mahendran can execute his complex plan forms the crux of the web series.
In this political drama, prominent roles are played by Suhasini, Suresh Krishna, Miya, Vishnu Govindan, Sidhartha Siva, Rahul Riji Nair, Balachandran Chullikad, Maniyanpilla Raju, Appunni Sasi, Renjit Shekhar, and Zhins Shan.

Saiju Kurup’s 7th OTT release
Saiju Kurup has been a part of a number of direct OTT releases, such as C U Soon on Amazon Prime, Lalitham Sundaram on Disney+ Hotstar, and Antakshari on SonyLIV. He had also played prominent roles in seven Malayalam films last year, including Janaki Jaane, Madhura Manohara Moham, and A Ranjith Cinema.
Other Malayalam web series
Last year saw the release of other Malayalam web series such as Kerala Crime Files - Shiju, Parayil Veedu, Neendakara, and Masterpeace (both available on Disney+ Hotstar). Meanwhile, the industry will see a number of OTT releases this year, such as Pharma and Madhi Vidhu. Perilloor Premier League, which debuted on Disney+ Hotstar on January 5.
