The much-awaited Rajinikanth-starrer, Jailer, was released across the world a few hours ago. The action drama helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar has been receiving positive responses from Bengaluru, Kerala, Mumbai and a few other locations abroad where the first shows commenced at 6 am.
Fans in Tamil Nadu, who could watch the film only at 9 am, have been eagerly waiting for the first reports from other locations before their Thalaivar dharisanam.
The film is likely to end up as the biggest opening for a Tamil movie this year. The first day gross in the state is expected to be around 25 crores, despite the lack of early morning shows. It has already registered the highest opening for the first day in Kerala in 2023. In Karnataka, Jailer has been allotted the maximum number of shows for any movie ever, surpassing the records set by KGF: Chapter 2.
As expected, the first day gross in the US, including premieres, touched $1M. The opening collection there is the highest for any Indian movie in 2023. It is expected that the movie would outsmart the Superstar's previous outings Annaatthe, Darbar and Petta in terms of first day opening.
Jailer is considered to rake in more than 70 crores comfortably on the first day of its release. The weekend figures are going to be huge and the film is expected to be in a safe zone after a few days. It needs around 250 crores to achieve the breakeven status.

The film has a big competition in Tollywood in the form of Chiranjeevi's Bholaa Shankar, which is actually carrying less hype. If the Telugu movie doesn't impress the audience, Jailer will storm the box office in Telugu states, too.
