Fans of Vijay might have got some answers after the release of ‘First Roar’ glimpse from his upcoming film Jana Nayagan after the film was speculated to be remake of Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari. There is an undeniable similarity in the aesthetics of the teaser and the Telugu film, besides the fact that Vijay is playing a massy cop, similar to what Nandamuri Balakrishna did in the original.
We had earlier reported that actor Vijay is a fan of Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari and had watched it five times. Ever since the actor’s final project, Jana Nayagan, was announced, reports were strongly indicating that the film is a remake of the Telugu film which starred Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role. The makers had remained tight-lipped if the speculations are true or not, but the recent first look teaser of Jana Nayagan might have given some answers.

The first look teaser shows Vijay as a cop, as he gets a heroic and most commercial entry. Fans cannot help notice the similarity between him and Nandamuri Balakrishna, who also plays a cop in the Telugu film. Right from the moustache twirling, to the sword-wielding vigilante, and the coolers, fans have already begun decoding his character and making comparisons.

Neither the production house, KVN Productions, nor the director, H Vinoth, have confirmed if the film is a remake. But with presence of Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju which seems to be a potential casting for Kajal Aggarwal and Sreeleela’s roles respectively, one can begin to believe that Jana Nayagan is indeed a remake. Anirudh Ravichander’s score for the teaser was met with lukewarm response with some comparing it to his Indian 2 work.
Jana Nayagan will release in theatres on January 9, 2026. The film also stars Bobby Deol, Priyamani, Gautham Menon and others.
