Suresh Gopi's latest film, Janaki V v/s State of Kerala, has hit the big screens today (July 17). The film, which has been in the limelight over a legal tussle with the Central Board of Film Certification, is currently receiving plaudits for giving Suresh Gopi the powerful comeback he deserved.
The film, which has been a topic of discussion for some time, has only increased audience expectations. Many people have taken to social media to express their thoughts about the courtroom drama.
The majority of them have appreciated Suresh Gopi's portrayal of advocate David Abel Donovan, saying it reminds his fans of his previous roles in Bharathchandran IPS and Chinthamani Kolacase.
Anupama Parameswaran is also receiving praise for her portrayal of Janaki in the film. In the meantime, Janaki V v/s State of Kerala is also criticised as a dismal film due to its subpar execution and cliche-filled narrative style.
"A perfect example of how old-school filmmaking and template writing can ruin a proven plot," commented a user online. Some have also asserted that the rest of the actors, with the exception of Suresh Gopi, Anupama, and Shruti Ramachandran, gave average performances and did not do enough to leave an impression on the viewer.
The movie's theatrical release in June had to be rescheduled after the CBFC refused to provide the certificate, citing issues with the use of Janaki in the title. After the case was heard in court, the producers ultimately decided to exclude Janaki's references in seven occasions and add the initial 'V' to the title. The film had received a lot of attention as a result of the issue.
The main character of the movie is Janaki, a Bangalore-based IT professional whose life is completely upended after she becomes the victim of an assault. When advocate David Abel Donovan appears, the case takes an unexpected turn as she starts her legal battle for justice. The main question in Janaki V v/s State of Kerala is whether she will receive the justice she is entitled to.
