Director Jane Campion, who made history by Winning an Oscar for her latest movie, The Power of the Dog, at the 94th Academy Awards as the oldest female director to win, the first woman to win Academy Awards for both directing and screenwriting, will now be honoured with Next Generation Indie Film Award 2023.
The award ceremony will take place today at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in LA. Campion will be receiving the award for The Power of the Dog, which was released in 2021.
The story of The Power of the Dog
The Power of the Dog tells the story about a domineering rancher, Phil Burbank inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.
Jane made history
Jane was the first female director to win the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival for her other directorial, The Piano in 1993. The movie won 3 Oscars for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Screenplay categories.
What is it about New Generation Indie Film Award?
Rian Jonhson, who was the inaugural recipient of New Generation Indie Film Awards in 2022, told Variety that the award honours, “transformative figure in the industry, an artist whose work and journey are a North Star to the filmmaking community, especially at a time when art and inspiration are much-needed.”
