The film, directed by Raju Murugan, has Karthi playing a thief

With just a week to go for the release of Karthi's upcoming film, Japan, the film has been censored with a U/A certificate. The runtime has been locked at 2 hours and 36 minutes.

What to expect from Japan?
Japan marks the maiden collaboration between Karthi and Modern Love Chennai director Raju Murugan. The film features Karthi as a thief who lives life king size. We hear that his character is inspired by the notorious thief Tiruvarur Murugan, who gave the police a run for their money. Known for some high-profile robberies, he came to the spotlight when he robbed an outlet of a popular jewellery chain. A HIV patient, Murugan passed away after helping the police solve some of his own crimes after being arrested.
While Anu Emmanuel plays the leading lady, the supporting cast comprises Jithan Ramesh, KS Ravikumar, Sunil, Vijay Milton, Vagai Chandrasekar and Bava Chelladurai. Music is by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography by Ravi Varman and editing by Philomin Raj. Japan, produced by SR Prabhu will also be releasing in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam with the same title.
Kerala theatrical rights bagged by THIS leading production house
The film is all set to be released in Kerala by Mukesh Ratilal Mehta's E4. The audio launch of the film was recently held and now the event which had the who's who of the industry in attendance, is all set to be streamed this Sunday. Dream Warrior Pictures dropped the announcement on its social media handle, "The Journey of @Karthi_Offl,#Karthi25 Promo - https://youtu.be/RPDy1hjFen8 For those who are unable to witness this spectacular event in person, watch it from your home! On @vijaytelevision, Sunday, 5th November, 3 PM (sic)."
Meanwhile the pre-event release is currently on in Hyderabad and Nani is said to be part of the event. The team has already begun the promotions in Chennai and Karthi has been going out of the way to promote the film. Interestingly, Japan marks his 25th project in the industry.
