When Ranveer Singh takes up a role, he makes sure to do full justice to it. The actor will be seen next as a Gujarati man in Jayeshbhai Jordaar and recently opened up about the work he had put in to perfect the character.

Ranveer worked with a diction coach so he could perfect his Gujarati accent but also interacted with Gujarati theatre and film actors, who are part of the movie's cast.

"As an artiste, it is important for me to be extremely authentic in my performances when I’m entrusted to play a character that belongs to a certain region of my country. From Ram Leela to Bajirao, from Gully Boy to Simmba and now Jayeshbhai, I feel responsible to accurately represent the places where these characters hail from. I feel duty bound to do justice to the people and their colourful, vibrant culture and spoken dialects. I leave no stone unturned to ensure that I give it my all (sic)," said the actor in a statement.

Ranveer said that he had to practice how the Gujarati-tinged Hindi accent sounds for over a month. He added that practising lines with his co-actors also aided the process.

Only recently, the actor played former Indian team captain Kapil Dev in Kabir Khan's 83, a sports drama about India's historic world cup win. The movie was not just appreciated for its near-accurate casting but also the performances given by the cast members including Ranveer.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar is a satirical take on gender-based prejudices in society through the story of one family in Gujarat. Ranveer plays the titular role of a father who is made to choose between his parents' conservative wishes of having a male grandson and the love he has for his daughter, pregnant wife and their unborn child.

The movie is written and directed by newcomer Divyang Thakkar, and also stars Shalini Pandey of Arjun Reddy fame in her Hindi feature debut along with Boman Irani, Jia Vaidya and Ratna Pathak Shah.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar, produced by Maneesh Sharma who directed Ranveer in Band Baaja Baraat, will be released in cinemas on May 13.
