It looks like filmmakers and actors are leaving no stone unturned in blocking dates for the theatrical releases of their much-delayed films. This year, there are going to be four major releases starting with Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer Sooryavanshi which will hit the screens during Diwali weekend. Now, Shahid Kapoor has announced that he will be ending the year with the release of his much-awaited movie Jersey.

Yes, Shahid posted a still from the Hindi remake of the Telugu film of the same name and unveiled the release date which is December 31, 2021. The actor wrote on his Instagram page, "JERSEY releasing in theatres 31st December 2021."

In Jersey, the actor plays the role of a man in his mid-30s who was a talented but failed cricketer. He decides to return to cricket in his mid-30s, driven by the desire to represent the Indian cricket team. Not just that, he also wants to fulfil his son's wish to own a jersey as a gift.

In the film, Shahid is paired opposite Mrunal Thakur while his father and veteran actor Pankaj Kapur plays his coach. The film is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also helmed the original film.

Jersey is produced by Allu Aravind, Aman Gill, Dil Raju and Suryadevara Naga Vamsi.

Earlier, during an Instagram live session, Shahid had revealed that he watched Jersey before Kabir Singh and could immediately resonate with the story of the film.

The actor stated, "I watched Jersey before Kabir Singh. The time when I saw it, I was unhappy. I used to think about where my career would go, what I will do next. So, I could relate to the story of Jersey, which is about late success. It’s about a man who finds glory at a time when people retire."
