Director Srijit Mukherji is busy with back-to-back projects. After the success of the Netflix series Ray, he is currently working on a rom-com titled X=Prem and a Hoichoi series Rabindranath Ekhane Kokhono Khete Asenni. In addition to these, he is now looking forward to finalising the cast of his double biopic.

The story would be based on the lives of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Nati Binodini. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was a revered saint, considered to be the avatar of Radha and Krishna, and still worshipped by his disciples all over the world. A leading theatre artiste of the 1880s, Binodini Dasi was a victim of social injustice and oppression, as she violated the so-called feminine model of behaviour, choosing to live for the love of her life – theatre.

While Jisshu U Sengupta may be roped in to play the lead role of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Anirban Bhattacharya might be seen essaying one of the six important characters. Talking to ETimes, director Srijit Mukherji informed that while they are still yet to finalise the cast, Anirban and Jisshu are on the cards as they seem to fit the roles.

This is not the first time, when Jisshu has donned the avatar of the 16th century Vaishnavite. He started his television career with a mythological series based on Chaitanya Mahaprabhu that earned him great acclaim, making him a household name in Bengal. The TV serial was so popular that Jisshu followed it up with a pala ‘Mahaprabhu’, along with his father Ujjal Sengupta. Thus, if locked in for the character, he will return to the role in the biopic that is scheduled to possibly go on floors next year.
