John Abraham is back in the news, thanks to the buzz surrounding his upcoming movie The Diplomat. Starring as a bureaucrat, this film is highly anticipated by his fans, who have been eagerly awaiting its release. However, The Diplomat isn’t the only project making headlines—several of his upcoming films are generating excitement. Among them, 1911 and the Rakesh Maria biopic have been widely discussed. The actor recently confirmed that 1911 has been shelved, while discussions for the biopic are ongoing.
1911 Shelved
For those unfamiliar, 1911 was speculated to be a collaboration between director Shoojit Sircar and John Abraham, following their successful partnership in Madras Cafe. The film was set to be a period drama centered around football, based on the victory of the Shibdas Bhaduri-led Mohun Bagan team in the IFA Shield Final match of 1911.
However, in a conversation with PTI, John Abraham confirmed that the film is no longer happening."Unfortunately, that film's not happening because we've been through a lot of processes. The idea sounds good, but we've seen many films about football. Do we still want to make it? Yes, in the future. But for now, we’ve put it on hold."
John Abraham Confirms Talks for the Rakesh Maria Biopic
Meanwhile, reports suggest that John is currently in discussions to portray former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria. Maria was instrumental in solving major cases such as the 1993 Bombay serial blasts, the 2003 Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar twin blasts, and the 2008 Mumbai attacks (26/11).
John confirmed that discussions for the biopic are ongoing, but no deals have been finalized yet.
"The Rakesh Maria biopic is still in the discussion stage. I haven’t signed a single film. Right now, I’m waiting for the release of The Diplomat, and after that, I have an exciting film, Tehran. I haven’t signed anything yet, but once I do, I’ll let everyone know."
