Kajol is all set to dabble in the new genre, that is, horror, with Maa, which is slated to release later this month. The actor, whenever she steps out for promotional activities for her forthcoming films, sees herself getting quizzed about her previous blockbusters from the 90s which redefined her career in every sense. It's a known fact that her onscreen chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan has gone down in history and will always be a fan favourite in Indian cinema. Now, during a recent interaction, Kajol once again ruled out a return to her two most famous films, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Despite the films' enduring popularity, the actor thinks they should be ignored.
While speaking with Pinkvilla recently, Kajol expressed her disapproval of the idea of a sequel to Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in which her and Shah Rukh's characters rekindle their romance.
She remarked, "People say you should make Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 2 when you grow older and fall in love again with Shah Rukh Khan and I’m like… The thing is, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was great because it was a different set of people; it was a different world. You still had people who believed in that kind of love. Like that eternal, once-in-a-lifetime kind of love."
She went on to describe the evolution of narrative and the ways in which audiences understand love. The actor shared, "If you ask someone today, they say that if this (relationship) doesn’t work out, we have ten other options standing on that track over there, so it’s difficult in today’s time to conceive a story that has the same belief pattern."
Nevertheless, Kajol is game to try fresh story ideas with Shah Rukh Khan. She expressed her desire to see a film like that made when asked if she would think about collaborating with him on a mature love story.
A sequel to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was also discussed by the star, who expressed her strong disdain. Kajol went on to say, "Like, I can’t imagine a DDLJ 2. Like what happened after the train? No one wants to know. Do you really want to know if they fought over the diapers or not? It’s just wonderful that it’s just left at the end and you know that the train left and it said ‘the end’. Now you can just leave it to imagination. They lived happily ever after; it’s one sentence. It’s not a marriage so it’s perfect."
After more than 30 years in the business, Kajol claimed she doesn't look back on her film choices with regret. She admitted that she had declined roles in multiple films, even critically acclaimed ones. The actor revealed, "Yes, lots of times. Prime example of 3 Idiots. Those films were theirs. The one who has that in their destiny; they are the ones who get it."
Reboots and sequels are becoming increasingly common in the industry, coinciding with Kajol's remarks. But the finality of some stories is what makes them lasting, in her view.
