Kalki 2898 AD, the epic futuristic sci-fi film cemented Prabhas’ position as the most bankable leading man in the Telugu film industry, yet again. The Nag Ashwin directorial, which deals with a unique concept, also features some of the finest actors of Indian cinema in its star cast, including legendary superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. Interestingly, recent reports suggest that Malayalam superstar Mohanlal was originally considered to play one of the key roles in Kalki 2898 AD.
In a recent chat with Sillymonks Mollywood YouTube channel, Kalki 2898 AD storyboard artist Venugopal dropped some interesting details on the film’s casting process. According to the artist who closely worked with director Nag Ashwin and his team for a long time, Mohanlal was initially considered for the much-loved character Supreme Yaskin, played by Kamal Haasan, in the film. Venugopal revealed that during the initial stages, the L2 Empuraan actor was considered for the role along with Ulaganayagan.
When the team was discussing the casting options, Nag Ashwin and his crew planned to approach Mohanlal to play Supreme Yaskin if Kamal Haasan, who was always the original choice for the role, turned down the offer. However, the Vikram actor eventually said Yes to the film, and the rest was history. But, the Kalki 2898 AD storyboard artist’s new revelation has left the fans of Mohanlal, who have had been eagerly waiting for the superstar to take up a big challenge in his career, slightly disappointed.
As per the recent updates, director Nag Ashwin is planning to dedicate over four months solely for finalising the script of Kalki 2 aka the upcoming Kalki 2898 AD sequel. The filmmaker, who is on a high with the massive box office success of the first installment, will kickstart the extensive pre-production of the sequel only after the script for the pending portion is finalised. Kamal Haasan is set to make a full-fledged appearance as lead antagonist Supreme Yaskin, while Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and leading lady Deepika Padukone will return to play their respective roles.
