If the buzz in the industry is to be believed, Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan is all set to provide the voiceover for the introduction scene of Mani Ratnam's dream project, Ponniyin Selvan. It is said that Kamal Haasan's voice will set the mood for the film. If the news is indeed true, this will mark the reunion of ace director Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan after a long gap of 35 years. The duo had earlier collaborated for the epic crime drama Nayakan, which went on to become one of the landmark films for both. Kamal Haasan went on to bag the National Award for his role as Velu Naicker and the film was considered as one of the 100 greatest films of all time. 

In the meantime, the teaser of the film was launched in a grand event in which the film's entire star cast was present. The teaser was released in multiple languages online and had already crossed 20 million views online. The teaser was lauded by the film fraternity. Music for the film is by AR Rahman. Cinematography is by Ravi Varman and editing is by Sreekar Prasad. Art direction is by Thota Tharrani.

The film has an ensemle star cast comprising Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Parthiban, Vikram Prabhu, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashwin Kakumanu, Rahman, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Jayaram, Laland Kishore to name a few. The film is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy's epic novel Ponniyin Selvan. Though Mani Ratnam was earlier planning to make it as a single film, he later decided to make it in two parts. The first part is all set to release on September 30 worldwide in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi. Expectations from the film have soared after the teaser release which provides a glimpse of the Chola empire.
