Karan Johar questions ‘hate’ against Bollywood and Koffee With Karan : It’s not really the truth

Within a few hours, Karan Johar will be back with a new season of spilled celebrity secrets, on Koffee With Karan 7. Although the show has made a name for itself as one of the longest running talk shows on Indian television, Koffee With Karan has witnessed its fair share of criticisms as well. The host recently opened up about how the show was ‘targeted’ by ‘social media hate’.

In conversation with PTI, Johar spoke of how there was a time when Bollywood had witnessed a lot of ‘social media hate’. His talk show was also one of the ‘targets’ of the hate, but Karan had convinced himself that all of it was ‘virtual’ and ‘not real’. He questioned that if it was really the truth, then why would actors choose to come onto his show, and why would he himself be interested to host it. “It’s not really the truth because had it been, why would Disney+ Hotstar want to do the show?”, he said.

The host went on to speak of how they soon came to realise that all the ‘negative banter’ directed at the show was nothing more than a ‘mirage’, something that did not exist. Johar spoke of how the people who loved Bollywood for over a century could suddenly turn around and start hating it. He was further convinced of his stance when Bollywood films started to do well and he realised that people were indeed watching them. The filmmaker spoke of how people could choose to hate any number of things, but at the end of the day it came out of their frustrations and wasnt real.

Koffee With Karan 7 will start streaming on Disney+ Hotstar on July 7, at 7pm. Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt will feature as guests on the show’s first episode of the new season.
