If the buzz is to be believed, it looks like Karthi and Pa Ranjith are likely to team up once again for a film. The project is said to be bankrolled by KE Gnanavel Raja's Studio Green, which is producing the director's Thangalaan.
Karthi to team up with Pa Ranjith?
The duo had first teamed up for the iconic film, Madras in 2014. According to a report in DT Next, we hear that the new project is likely to be announced on the 10th anniversary of the film next year. While Karthi is currently busy with Raju Murugan's Japan, Nalan Kumarasamy and Prem Kumar's next, Ranjith is awaiting the release of Thangalaan. He has also begun work on Sarpatta 2, which will have Arya return as boxer Kabilan. The new project of Karthi and Ranjith, is likely to begin rolling after the duo wraps up their respective projects. It is to be noted that Studio Green had bankrolled Madras as well.
Japan in the final works
Japan is Karthi's second outing in 2023 after Mani Ratnam's historical fiction Ponniyin Selvan 2. The film, helmed by Raju Murugan, is based on the life of Tiruvarur Murugan, who was involved in jewellery theft across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Murugan, who was a HIV positive patient, was given a new lease of life by the Bengaluru police by helping him with medical treatment. He later helped the police solve many cases that involved him. However, he died in 2020 due to ill health. The movie also stars Anu Emmanuel, Sunil, Vijay Milton and Vaagai Chandrasekar, and is all set to hit screens for Diwali.
Thangalaan moves to the post production stage
In the meantime, the post-production work for Ranjith's next with Chiyaan Vikram, is underway. Vikram has undergone a massive makeover for the film, which also stars Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Pasupathi to name a few. The film will hit screens next year.
