If the buzz in the industry is to go by, Karthi's upcoming film Viruman is likely to release on August 11. The film was earlier slated for release on August 31 but it looks like the makers are now planning to advance the release as Vikram's Cobra, which was supposed to release on August 11 has postponed its release. We also hear that if Viruman release is advanced, Cobra might take up the spot left vacant by Viruman. This eventually means that the release dates of the films will be swapped.
Touted to be a rural-based mass entertainer, Viruman, directed by Muthaiah, is set in the backdrop of Madurai. The film marks the second collaboration between Karthi and Muthaiah. The duo had earlier teamed up for the 2015 hit rural entertainer, Komban, which had Lakshmi Menon playing the leading lady. The film turned out to be a huge success for the team. Viruman marks the acting debut of director Shankar's daughter Aditi. The rest of the star cast includes Rajkiran, Prakash Raj, RK Suresh, Manoj, and Soori, in pivotal roles. Music for the film is by Yuvan Shankar Raja and cinematography is by Selvakumar SK of Maanagaram-fame.
Cobra, on the other hand, has Chiyaan Vikram playing a brilliant mathematician. The film, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu is said to be loaded with action. Srinidhi Shetty of K.G.F makes her debut in the film. The film also stars former cricketer Irfan Pathan. The rest of the star cast includes veteran Malayalam actor Mamu Koya (his Tamil debut), Mirnalini Ravi, Roshan Mathew and Miya George to name a few. Music for the film is by AR Rahman. While cinematography is by Harish Kannan, editing is by Bhuvan Srinivasan. Cobra will be the first theatrical release of Vikram after Kadaram Kondaaan. His last release, Mahaan, released on OTT.
