It was bound to happen that Yash and Sudeep fans will be at each other’s throats after some promotional material for the latter’s Vikrant Rona drops. This week, Kiccha Sudeep’s Vikrant Rona trailer came out and both camps have been tracking its performance keenly. While the trailer has been doing well, Yash fans are rejoicing that is not growing as rapidly as KGF2 did in similar time frames.

Today, KGF2 began trending again on social media, as the film’s trailer not only remains the fastest to record 100k likes in 12 minutes, as against 43 minutes for Vikrant Rona, but also has 791k likes in the first 24 hours against 383K for the latter in the Kannada version. Sudeep fans, of course, came to his defence that all of the views and likes that Vikrant Rona has amassed since the trailer came out on June 23 are organic, with the film team not spending on promoted content on social media.

They also contended that what worked for KGF2 was that it was a sequel, whereas with Vikrant Rona, audiences are still looking at a blank slate and have no idea what’s in store. Fans said that these comparisons should be done as and when Vikrant Rona 2 comes out.

In fact, earlier this year, Vikrant Rona producer Manjunath Gowda had spoken to the media about how most film teams today pay massive amounts to register views for their promotional material and those lower counts do not mean a lack of interest in it, but that those numbers are organic views.

The Vikrant Rona trailer was released on June 23, well over a month ahead of the film’s theatrical outing on July 28. The film, directed by Anup Bhandari will release in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and English. Interestingly, the English trailer has a whopping 1.4 million views so far.
