It was supposed to release way back in August, 2021 and was then pushed ahead to February 25. But after the third wave of the pandemic and restrictions in theatre occupancy forced the makers of Vikrant Rona to postpone it yet ahead, there's been no word on a renewed date.
With the team offering no information, fans have been busy speculating, with major discussions surounding the release of the fantasy action drama. According to a source, the delay in announcing a release date is because the film is still in post-production, given that 3D conversion is time consuming. "Producer Manjunath Gowda and his team are trying to work out the logistics and announce a release date at the earliest. At the moment, it does seem that Vikrant Rona will be an early May release," says the source.
But what about rumours that the film has eventually been sold for a direct OTT release? "Not true," says the source, adding, "If the film was meant only for OTT, the team would not have invested extra in converting it to 3D and enhancng the viewing experience. As they have always maintained, Vikrant Rona is meant to be a theatrical release and that's what it will be. The question now is only when that will be."
Directed by Anup Bhandari, Vikrant Rona, produced by Manjunath Gowda for Shalini Artss and co-produced by Alankar Pandian for Invenio Films, stars Kiccha Sudeep, Nirup Bhandari, Neetha Ashok, Jacqueline Fernandez, Ravishankar Gowda among others. Originally called Phantom, the film was shot at special sets in Hyderabad. The film will get a pan-India release in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. After its theatrical run, Vikrant Rona will be streamed on Zee5.
