Arunima Ghosh has teamed up with Gourab Chatterjee for a brand new comedy, Kirtan, with veteran actor Paran Bandyopadhyay. Directed by Abhimanyu Mukherjee, the film delves into the life of a north Kolkata man and his daughter-in-law. While Paran will be seen as the elderly man, Arunima will be seen as the bahu in the film. Recently, the trailer of the film was dropped.

The name of Arunima’s character is Manimala. The trailer gives a clear picture of a family drama that is dotted with tiff, fun, love, and tears. Arunima is back on the screen as a simple housewife after a long break. Her character in Arindam Sil’s Maayakumari – her previous release – is far from Manimala.

The traditional Bangal-Ghoti debate seems to be an integral part of Kirtan. In an interview with Anandabazar Online, Arunima said, “In real life also, I am a Ghoti (a Bengali who hails from West Bengal, India) and Paranda is a Bangal (a Bengali whose family migrated from Bangladesh to India). The Bangal-Ghoti fight between my character and Paranda’s character was amazing. I really enjoyed it. I am playing a simple Bengali housewife after a while. In fact, I have put on a little weight for the film.”

Arunima hails from North Kolkata, where her maternal uncles live. The actress is yet to marry but what are the chances if she gets to deal with a similar situation post-marriage? “I can argue but I can’t be like Manimala,” she said.

After Kirtan, Arunima will be seen in Arindam Sil’s Iskaboner Bibi.
