Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani came together for the latest episode of Koffee With Karan Season 7. Kiara made her debut appearance on the popular talk show, while Shahid followed his annual tradition of appearing on it. The two actors discussed a variety of topics, including their work, relationships, and movies. During the programme, Karan questioned Shahid about his most recent movie, Jersey, and how he had pinned high hopes on it, but was disappointed by how it failed to set the cash registers ringing at the box office.

When Karan asked Shahid about the film's performance, Shahid responded that the team was supposed to release the film on the 31st but couldn't go ahead with the plan as due to the pandemic, which led to a complete shutdown." It literally happened 3 days before the release. All our marketing material was out and everything was released and very clearly in my head in December, I asked myself, ‘Am I thinking from my head or from my heart?”

Shahid went on to describe how the father-son relationship in the movie had an impact on him emotionally as well as he was deeply attached to the role and the film. The director and producer of the movie, Gowtam Tinnanuri and Aman Gill respectively, were extremely eager for a big release in theatre.

He explained, "When the release didn't happen in December, I was really thinking that we should just straight go for a digital release. Because it's really difficult to repeatedly keep creating the hype around the film, especially when all your material is out. We released the film in April, which was not a great month for us because there was a certain mood and a certain type of cinema which the audience was watching and we had shifted our date multiple times by the time we released. He added, "But you are still optimistic and hopeful thinking that things will get sorted but it didn't work out like that. I feel maybe we didn't do the right thing on the film, maybe the film needed to be protected."

The sports drama film Jersey was written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and is a remake of the 2019 Telugu film of the same name. Shahid teamed up with Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapoor for the film. Geetha Arts, Dil Raju Production, Sithara Entertainments, and Brat Films bankrolled the film which released on April 22, 2022.
