Krishna Ghattam, a rural drama, directed and produced by Suresh Palla, brought together a host of actors including familiar names like Chaitanya Krishna, Maya Nelluri besides Sasha Singh, Venkat Govada, Duvvasi Mohan and Vinay Nallakadi in key roles. The film had a theatrical release in select screens across Telugu states in November and garnered positive reviews from critics.
While it had a modest run at the box office, the drama is now out on OTT. Leading streaming platform Amazon Prime Video has acquired the post-theatrical digital rights of Krishna Ghattam and premiered the film earlier this week. The film is a David vs Goliath-styled clash revolving around a revered theatre actor and a bunch of rural youngsters entangled in a crime.

The film unfolds through Prasad, a bank employee and a theatre actor, popular for his portrayal of Lord Krishna in mythological dramas. He helps the needy in his village in crises. A village head’s son Rajesh soon falls for a local girl Rama. One night, there’s trouble in paradise when Rama complains of being raped by Rajesh and his friends while they’re drunk. How will Prasad solve this case?
Though it’s ultimately a tale of good versus evil, Krishna Ghattam explores myriad themes with a mythological twist. That the drama unfolds through a character renowned for his portrayal of Lord Krishna lends it a unique moral centre. Meanwhile, there’s a psychological battle among Rajesh and his friends about the idea of resistance, desire and political correctness.
Partially inspired by true incidents, Krishna Ghattam, produced under Wild Virtue Creations, won several awards at film festivals. Viswanath GR, Bombay Padma and Prasanna Kemburi are also part of the lineup. With cinematography by Surya Vinay, the film was edited by Vinay. PR scored the music for the project for which Bombay Padma handled the production design.
