It seems that Alphonse Puthren directorial Gold’s loss has favoured Fellini TP’s Ottu aka Rendagam. The latter, which was initially scheduled to hit theatres on September 2 and was deferred, will now reportedly take up the place of Gold, which too has been postponed, on September 8 in theatres during Onam.

Earlier this week, the makers of Ottu announced that they were delaying the release of Kunchacko Boban and Arvind Swami’s action thriller after its Tamil version Rendagam didn’t clear censors in time. The producers had stated that since it’s a bilingual, it was important to them that both the versions hit theatres at the same time. This meant that the new release date had to be squeezed in before the Pooja holidays or after that and would have led to the movie not cashing in on either Onam or Pooja festive season.

However, with Prithviraj Sukumaran and Nayanthara’s Gold relinquishing its spot from the September 8 release due to technical reasons, the slot seems to have been freed up for Ottu to take over. Gold will now reportedly hit theatres on September 15 or 16, while Ottu, if the Tamil version clears censors on Monday as expected, could release in theatres during Thiruvonam day on September 8.

This would also set up a clash with Ottu, Siju Wilson’s Pathonpathaam Noottaandu and Biju Menon’s Oru Thekkan Thallu Case – all of which will release on September 8. Ottu, meanwhile, is a big budget film that was shot in Kerala, Mangalore, Mumbai, Goa and Pune. The movie, which also marks Arvind Swami’s Malayalam comeback and Kunchacko Boban’s Tamil debut, has Jackie Shroff, Eesha Rabba and Amalda Liz in supporting roles.

Kunchacko’s previous film Nna Thaan Case Kodu, which released on August 11, has already raked in Rs 50 crore in box office collection worldwide and the makers of Ottu would be hoping that the actor continues his successful run.
