Laila is Vishwak Sen's latest film, aggressively promoted before its release. Vishwak Sen made bold claims about the film’s success, making it a hot topic ahead of its debut. Adding to the buzz, actor 30 Years Prithvi made controversial remarks about the former Andhra Pradesh government, further fueling the hype.
However, Laila opened to overwhelmingly negative reviews and was pulled from theaters within just three days. Prime Video acquired the OTT rights for a hefty price and began streaming the film on March 9, 2025. Unfortunately, the comedy caper failed to gain traction on the platform. Viewers who watched the film have criticized it as a cringe-fest, leading to a surge of memes trolling Vishwak Sen and questioning how he approved the project in the first place.
Aha also secured the digital rights and initially announced a streaming date. However, the film has yet to be released on the platform, sparking speculation about whether the OTT deal was revoked due to the film’s disastrous reception. Meanwhile, Prime Video continues to stream Laila, though it has failed to trend on the platform, highlighting its lackluster performance.
There are reports that Aha will eventually stream the film, with last-minute discussions ongoing regarding the OTT release. Once finalized, Laila will also be available on OTTplay Premium.
The film, directed by Ram Narayan, marked the Telugu debut of Kannada actress Akanksha Singh. She played a glamorous role in the film, but unfortunately, Laila did little to boost her career. One of the movie’s key comedic elements was Vishwak Sen disguising himself as a woman to evade goons. However, this aspect, intended to be a highlight, ended up being the most trolled feature of the film.
Acknowledging the backlash, Vishwak Sen openly apologized to his fans, vowing to be more selective with his future projects. It remains to be seen whether Laila can redeem itself on OTT in the coming days. Stay tuned for further updates.
