It’s a very busy week at the box office for Kannada cinema, with at least 7 films listed for November 14. How many of them will actually make it with enough screens and shows remains to be seen, given that there’s a big-ticket release in the form of Kaantha as well. On OTT, meanwhile, Ekka remains the major draw, having been postponed by a week by the streamer. This week, though, it is joined by a bevy of interesting films from other industries that will be available with Kannada audio as well.

Yuva Rajkumar’s much-awaited film was meant to be on OTT last week, but for reasons best known to the streamer, it was pushed ahead by a week. The film will now begin streaming in a week that is chock-a-block with theatrical releases, as well as several big titles from other languages that will be available with Kannada audio.
Ekka, directed by Rohit Padaki, had Yuva as Mutthu, who led a simple life in a village with his mother. But when a friend vanishes after getting Mutthu to pledge his house with the local loan shark, the latter is forced to head to Bengaluru to find a way to get his home back. When he then ends up saving a local gangster, he gets pulled into his gang, changing Mutthu’s life irrevocably.

Director Senna Hegde, who is best known to Kannada audiences as the maker of the romantic drama Katheyondu Shuruvagide, shifted focus back to making Malayalam cinema, starting with the National Award-winning Thinkalazhcha Nishchayam. His latest is Avihitham, a black comedy about an illicit affair that he co-wrote with Ambareesh Kalathera. Despite a cast of largely new faces, Senna’s film received overwhelmingly positive reviews upon its theatrical release. The Malayalam original film will be available with Kannada audio as well.
