Annette marks Carax’s return to direction after his fantasy drama Holy Motors (that was released in 2012). Ron and Russel Mael (of the Sparks band) have penned the story for the musical.

The tale begins with a rousing, passionate love story between Henry and Ann. Henry McHenry (Adam Driver) is a stand-up comedian with not a single unfunny bone in his body. He performs a weird show ‘The Ape of God’ while donning a boxing robe. His wife, Anne Defrasnoux (Marion Cotillard) is a world-famous opera singer.

Love blossoms under the arc lights between the two. Things are as they are with them but everything changes for the couple when they give birth to their child Annette.

The film that was considered too ‘wacky’ for Cannes critics, promises a captivating performance by Academy Award nominee Adam Driver. Film buffs across the globe have already seen a fair bit of Driver’s acting prowess in the critically acclaimed British drama Marriage Story

Driver, who was signed for the film seven years ago, said in his statement that he had been talking about this film for seven years and now that it is finally being watched, it comes as a sense of relief to him. “I’m relieved it will be out,” he said.

One can also expect a solid performance from Marion Cotillard in the film as the characters delve into the intricacies of a crumbling relationship.
