Over the next twenty years, he becomes friends with fellow prisoner "Red", and helps prison warden Samuel Norton manage his finances. Tim Robbins plays Andy, while Morgan Freeman and Bob Gunton appear in key roles in the movie, directed by Frank Darabont.

He is left with custody of his son after his wife leaves him. The film is set in 1981 in San Francisco. Smith's son  Jaden  plays Gardner's son in his feature debut.

Helmed by Noah Baumbach, the movie secured six nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Original Screenplay, among others.

Nick Cassavetes' 2004 film The Notebook is based on Nicholas Sparks' 1996 novel of the same name. The biographical drama, directed by David Fincher, depicts the creation of Facebook. Jesse Eisenberg plays Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg along with Max Minghella, and Justin Timberlake and. At the 83rd Academy Awards, it won accolades for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, and Best Film Editing.
