This is a special year for Tovino Thomas. The actor, who turned 32 on January 21, will be completing a decade in the industry by the end of the month. His recent success Minnal Murali, which had him playing a superhero, has catapulted the Mollywood star to international fame and most certainly elevated his status as a pan-Indian star. This fact is not lost to Tovino himself, who says that he is aware that his upcoming movies will be watched by a new and wide section of audience, who have begun following his projects since watching Minnal Murali. But considering the list of his upcoming movies, there wouldn’t be much to worry in that regard as the films will have him play roles that explore his range as an actor.
Naradan
The social thriller-drama, set in the backdrop of the media industry, is directed by Mayaanadhi and Virus filmmaker Aashiq Abu. It has Tovino Thomas playing a journalist, who is forced to question his own ethics, in the world of media that resorts to sensationalism for TRPs. The film also has Anna Ben as part of the cast.
Vaashi
The movie, which marks the directorial debut of actor Vishnu G Raghav, is a relationship drama that Tovino and Keerthy Suresh in the lead. The movie wrapped up production a few days ago in Thiruvananthapuram. Tovino had mentioned that its theme is “super relevant”.
Vazhakku
Shot after the first lockdown, the domestic thriller starring Tovino, Kani Kusruthi and Sudev Nair is helmed by award-winning filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, who had earlier directed movies such as Ozhivudivasthe Kali, S Durga and Chola. The film is also co-produced by Tovino.
Ajayante Randaam Moshanam
The upcoming big budget movie, which will go on floors by the end of the year, has Tovino in a triple role. He plays Kunjikelu, Manikyan and Ajayan from 1900, 1950 and 1990, respectively. All three practice kalarippayattu, and Tovino will once again transform his physique for the Jithin Lal directorial, which will be released in multiple languages.
Thallumaala
The festive entertainer, also starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, is helmed by Unda director Khalid Rahman and scripted by Muhsi Parari and Ashraf Hamza. Set in Malabar, the movie is a commercial entertainer that has eight action sequences and eight songs, and revolves around the life of a person from his college years to his 30s.
Anweshippin Kandethum
Helmed by Darwin Kuriakose, the movie reportedly revolves around a group of investigators. The mystery thriller is set to go on floors by May 2022 and has a cast featuring Aadhya Prasad, Jaffer Idukki, Nandu and Vijayakumar. The movie is scripted by Jinu V Abraham, who has also written Prithviraj Sukumaran’s upcoming movie Kaduva.
Untitled Vineeth Kumar directorial
Tovino has also wrapped up a mystery drama, helmed by actor-director Vineeth Kumar, that was extensively shot in Bengaluru. The movie, which also has Basil Joseph and Darshana Rajendran, is based on friendships and is co-produced by Samir Thahir, Shyju Khalid and Ashiq Usman. It is expected to release in theatres.
