Prithviraj Sukumaran, the popular Malayalam actor-filmmaker, has proved his acting prowess with several films that went on to be critically acclaimed and also won prestigious awards at the state and national level. Movies such as Ayalum Njanum Thammil and Indian Rupee won the audience’s applause as well as the jury’s approval. Prithviraj Sukumaran won the Kerala State Award for Best Actor for his performance in this Lal Jose film. Prithviraj played Dr Ravi Tharakan in the movie, which follows the protagonist’s journey from a reluctant doctor to a renowned surgeon. Pratap Pothen also appears in a key role in the film along with Narain, Samvrutha Sunil, Rima Kallingal and Remya Nambeesan.
Kamal’s directorial fetched another Kerala State Award for Best Actor for Prithviraj. The film, a biopic, chronicles the life of JC Daniel, regarded as the father of Malayalam cinema. Mamta Mohandas, Sreenivasan and Chandni play other supporting roles in the film, which collected as many as seven State awards, including for the Best Film.
This Prithviraj Sukumaran-starrer was adjudged as the best Malayalam film National Film Awards. The film follows Jayaprakash aka JP, who is trying to make it big in the real estate business. His life changes after he meets Achutha Menon, played by the veteran Thilakan. Tini Tom and Jagathy Sreekumar play other key roles along with Rima Kallingal and Mamukkoya.
Dr. Biju's film was also honoured as the Best Malayalam Feature Film at the 58th National Film Awards. Prithviraj plays a doctor at a prison hospital. A dying woman, from a terrorist group, pleads with the doctor to find her little son and reunite with him his father. , Indrajith and Master Govardhan play other key roles in the film.
Set in the 70s Kerala, this acclaimed film is based on a real-life incident. The film revolves around Raveendran, a constable, and Joseph, a Naxalite. After orders are given to execute the Naxalite, Raveendran is forced to commit the act. Madhupal's directorial debut secured several Kerala State Film awards, including Best Actor for Lal, who played the constable. Prithviraj was seen as Joseph.
