Lokah star Sam Mohan: 'Thalavara's team initially mistook me as a Hindi actor...'| Exclusive

Many people had no idea who portrayed Kathanar's descendant, Johny, in Lokah: Chapter 1- Chandra. Even though some people identified actor Sam Mohan but couldn't remember which movie he was in, his social media post verified his highly praised career, which includes popular Hindi films like 12th Fail and Maamla Legal Hai. In an interview with OTTplay, Sam talked about his experience working in Lokah and how a group of assistant directors in Thalavara thought this Thrissur native was a Hindi actor.

'Not many know I am a Malayali'

Sam disclosed that Mahesh Narayanan's Take Off, which is accessible on JioHotstar and OTTplay Premium, marked his acting debut. Since I played the minor part of a male nurse following Kunchacko Boban, no one can easily identify me in it. Later, I went to Bombay for auditions and received offers there," he stated. 

When the actor emailed the casting crew of Arjun Ashokan's most recent movie, Thalavara, they first asked, "Why is he auditioning for this?"Is he familiar with Malayalam? When Sam posted his filmography on social media following Lokah's release, several people recognised him.

'Lokah is a dream come true'

The Rocketry star remarked that it has always been his dream to work on a movie like Lokah, and it was wonderful to see a project of this nature emerging from the Malayalam industry. "As a Marvel fan, I've often wondered if a project like this will ever be made in Malayalam. When I heard the core concept of the story, I was intrigued, and my character is mysterious," he continued. He continued by saying that he first received references to John Wick's Continental Hotel from the casting director Vivek. "I don't know if the character I play would return in the subsequent instalments but there are numerous possibilities," he stated.

Prior to becoming a full-time actor, Sam worked as an IT professional. He is currently enjoying the success of Lokah while working on a Hindi web series and movie. "Being in films used to be a far-fetched dream, but now I get more excited about being a part of projects such as Lokah. Filmmaking was a dream before performing, so perhaps I get to direct a movie eventually," he said.
