Pragya Kapoor’s next comes in the form of Maali, a film that offers a poignant narrative of climate change through the story of a young girl named Tulsi. The film’s trailer was launched recently by Vaani Kapoor at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

The trailer follows Tulsi, a young girl living amongst the calm of the mountains with her father. The girl is shown to have a very strong connection to nature, becoming plagued with worry over its destruction in the name of progress. Her life is turned upside down when she moves to the city and witnesses just how very little the regard for nature is there. As time goes by, Tulsi finds herself struggling due to the toll the move brings on her mental health.

Maali will premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne on August 18.

During the trailer launch, as reported by Planet Bollywood, Vaani spoke of how Pragya’s films always had an important social message. Saying that the trailer for Maali looked incredible, the actress talked about how the film highlighted a very important issue that needs to be addressed and paid attention to.

Pragya called it an honour to showcase the film at the festival, and thanked her friend Vaani for launching the trailer. Speaking of his beautiful journey of collaborating with Pragya, the director said that Pragya was deeply connected with nature herself and the film would not have been possible without her.

Meanwhile the attendees at the festival this year include Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shefali Shah, singer Sona Mohapatra and filmmakers Anurag Kashyap, Kabir Khan, Aparna Sen, Nikkhil Advani and Shoojit Sircar. Vaani had also won an award at the festival for her performance in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, which Pragya had also produced.
