R Madhavan, who is all set to make his directorial debut, with Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, a biopic on former aerospace scientist Nambi Narayanan, recently stated that popular fictional spy James Bond was a bachcha (kid) when compared with Narayanan. Nambi Narayanan was a space scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), and was accused of being a spy and was arrested in1994. Though he was acquitted later, he continues to fight for justice.

Madhavan told Bollywood Hungama that he had to remove some factual events from the film, so that the film was believable to the audience and that Nambi Narayanan's journey was so extra-ordinary. Madhavan stated that when he met the man of the moment, Nambi Narayanan was talking only about the case, the humiliation he underwent and he was wrongly accused and arrested on the charges of espionage. Though he was acquitted years later, Nambi Narayanan said that even if one seached about the scientist today, the first thing that would pop up is the case.

Madhavan added that the entire family was called as a spu family and that though Nambi Narayanan was conferred with a Padma Shri, no one really knew why he received the award. Madhavan meticulously researched on the subject and learnt that he was the the first Ivy League scientist from India and that he went to Russia when USSR was in a state of crisis. So, when compared with Nambi Narayanan, James Bond, the fictional British Secret Service agent from the Bond film series, was a bachcha, he had said.

Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, which is scheduled to hit screens on July 1, will release in Tamil, Hindi and English. The star cast comprises Madhavan as Nambi Narayanan, Simran, Rajit Kapur, Gulshan Grover, along with cameos by Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya.
