Madhuri Dixit has confirmed that a comedy sitcom, based on her life in the USA, which was going to be executive produced by Priyanka Chopra, is no longer in the pipeline.
According to The Indian Express, in a group interview, Dixit said, "Yes, there were ongoing discussions and we were trying to pitch it and Shri Rao, director of The Fame Game, who has written the script of the show, was involved with that project too. But sometimes things work and sometimes they don’t. We tried to get that sitcom approved but it didn’t pan out."
New York-based writer Shri Rao (General Hospital: Night Shift) was set to write the pilot and was attached as executive producer along with the actor’s husband Sriram Nene.
Dixit said that the show was only partly autobiographical. The makers were going to take certain instances from her life, like her move to retire from acting and move to Denver, Colorado after marriage. "It would show what happens in such a situation? But it is done and we are not working on it anymore," she said.
Chopra had announced the show in 2017 that was going to be set at ABC, the same network that aired her TV series Quantico. In the same year, Dixit had said the show was "definitely in the works" and she was excited about it.
Dixit's latest project is the Netflix series The Fame Game, which also stars Sanjay Kapoor, Rajshri Deshpande and Manav Kaul. The show marks her digital debut.
