The makers of Asif Ali and Mamta Mohandas’ Maheshum Marutiyum unveiled the first song from the Sethu directorial and it showcases the changes in the protagonists’ lives from childhood, after the arrival of a Maruti 800.

The movie, which sort of spans as a love triangle between the characters of Asif, Mamta and a Maruti 800, had cleared the censors with an ‘U’ certificate recently and is slated to hit theatres in February. The song Naalumani Poovu, which was shared by the cast, revealed the first visuals from the film.

While the song’s video seems to be a sequence where the film’s protagonist Mahesh recollects his childhood days and how the arrival of a Maruti 800 changed his equation with Mamta’s character. In an earlier interview with us, the film’s director Sethu had said that the movie maps the lives of Mahesh from his childhood to his present and his relationship with his car, which was the first Maruti 800 in his village, as well as Mamta’s character.

Asif and Mamta had previously worked together in Sathyan Anthikad’s Katha Parayambol and are teaming up again after a huge gap. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Mamta said, “Obviously, what drew me to the film is that the history of the Maruti 800 plays a big role in it. I won’t say that it’s about Maruti but it’s a fiction that stems from the car’s history, and that’s what makes it a character in the movie. It’s also after a huge gap that I am working with Asif.”

The film, which is produced by Maniyanpilla Raju, is a romcom that has Faiz Siddiq as its cinematographer and Kedar as its music director. The team had wrapped up the film’s shoot in 2020. Meanwhile, Asif is also part of Jude Anthany Joseph’s 2018 and Mridul Nair’s Kasaragold. Mamta had signed VK Prakash’s media thriller Live, which also has Soubin Shahir and Priya Prakash Varrier as part of its cast.
