Sakshi Tanwar dons the role of a grief stricken mother trying to uncover the truth behind her daughter’s death in the upcoming series, Mai. The trailer for the show was unveiled today, giving viewers a glimpse into the world of violence the protagonist finds herself in after the tragedy. With Tanwar essaying such an intense and gruelling avatar, it was no wonder that fans would have a lot to say about the show.
On Twitter most responses for the trailer seemed to be on the positive end. The thrilling premise of the show was something a lot of users were very drawn to- of a meek mother turning into a vengeful detective to figure out the cause of her daughter's end. The trailer did a good job at stoking fans’ interest for the series, with one user calling the trailer ‘promising’ and that they were looking forward to the show. Another predicted that the series was going to be an ‘edge of the seat thriller’ and a ‘winner’.
One user talked of how, after witnessing ‘badass’ versions of gangsters and politicians, viewers could finally see a ‘badass’ mother through the show. Another talked about how they thought the series would resemble Sridevi’s 2017 film Mom. They also added how ‘scary’ the trailer looked. Wamiqa Gabbi’s fate as the murdered daughter struck a chord with another user.
Tanwar’s performance was highlighted by many. One user even picked out moments from the trailer featuring the actress, while another referred to her as a ‘powerhouse of talent’.
The upcoming series also features Raima Sen, Vivek Mushran, Prashant Narayanan and Seema Pahwa. Atul Mongia serves as its showrunner. The series is bankrolled by Clean Slate Filmz.
Mai will premiere on Netflix on April 15.
