Shamshera saw Ranbir Kapoor’s return to the big screen after almost four years. But it seems that the star’s comeback is failing to live up to its hype, as its dismal run at the box office seems to suggest. The film’s director Karan Malhotra recently penned a heartfelt note putting his full support behind the film.

Karan took to his official Twitter handle to write a note to ‘Shamshera’, fervently claiming it as ‘his’. ‘My Dearest Shamshera, you are majestic the way you are’, the note began. The director spoke of how he felt it was important to voice his thoughts on the social media platform, claiming it was where all the love, hate and humiliation directed towards Shamshera existed. Apologising for ‘abandoning’ the film for the past few days as he could not take the hate, Karan said that his withdrawal was a sign of weakness that he could not excuse. The director went on to say that he was ‘proud’ of the film and expressed his gratitude towards the cast and crew.

Check out the director’s post below:

Shamshera was released on July 22, and witnessed a slow opening day, garnering a little over Rs 10.25 crores on its first day. Its box office collections came to more than Rs 30 crores after the first weekend, and reports suggest that its box office run looks grim. The film was reportedly made on a massive budget, which was about Rs. 150 crore. Many reports suggest that the film is likely to earn less than Rs 100 crore throughout its box office run.

In addition to Ranbir, the film also features Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana and Ronit Roy in pivotal roles. The film was bankrolled by Yash Raj Films.

Shamshera will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical run.
