Malaikottai Vaaliban had a grand release in theatres worldwide on January 25, much to the delight of Mohanlal's fans and movie buffs across the country as they celebrated the actor's first work with director Lijo Jose Pellissery. Regarded as one of the most anticipated movies of 2024, it was expected that Mohanlal would score another hit film after his courtroom drama, Neru.
On the first day of its theatrical release, the movie was predicted to take in a significant amount of collection thanks to its record-breaking online presales and high anticipation following glimpses of the cast, trailer, and extensive promotional activities.

In New Delhi, the Malayalam version of Malaikottai Vaaliban likewise had a significant occupancy rate of 54.75%.
Even so, the early morning fans' show praised the film's performances as well as the director's creativity and style of filmmaking. By the end of the day, many expressed their dissatisfaction with the lag in the film.
Many of the actor’s fans lauded the filmmaker for giving Mohanlal such a powerful character. In the meantime, some helmed the film to be a “perfect Lijo Jose Pellissery film” rather than a Mohanlal flick.

In Kerala, Vijay's Leo has the greatest pre-sales record with over Rs 13 crore. A lot of advance reservations were also made for Nelson Dilipkumar's Jailer, Beast, and Yash's KGF 2 in the state.
