Malaikottai Vaaliban, one of the most anticipated Malayalam films of the year, hit the big screens on January 25, 2024. The magnum opus which marked the first onscreen collaboration of Mohanlal and director Lijo Jose Pellissery, however, is struggling to meet the expectations of common audiences.

The period fantasy drama, which features the superstar in the titular role, made a massive opening at the box office by making around Rs 12.2 crore on Day 1. However, Malaikottai Vaaliban has now fallen flat, especially at the Kerala box office.

Malaikottai Vaaliban Day 3 collection report

As per the latest updates from Sacnilk, the Mohanlal-starrer is struggling to perform well at the box office, especially in Kerala, owing to the negative reviews and social media trolling. The movie, which made around Rs. 5.85 crore from Kerala box office alone, has made just Rs. 2.5 crore on Day 2, and around Rs. 1.65 crore on Day 3.

This is a major downfall for the film, considering it stars the biggest crowd-puller of Malayalam cinema in the lead role and was made with a massive budget of over Rs. 60 crore. If things proceed at the same rate, Malaikottai Vaaliban might not be able to cross even the Rs 30 crore mark at the worldwide box office, within its lifetime run at the theatres.

However, we will have to wait till the end of the first weekend, to know the final results. If the Lijo Jose Pellissery directorial performs well at the box office on its first Sunday, it might pass the Monday test. Otherwise, things are going to be difficult for the period fantasy film, at the box office, which might end up as a below average box office grosser.

Malaikottai Vaaliban on OTT

As reported earlier, the OTT streaming rights of Malaikottai Vaaliban are bagged by the popular platform Disney+ Hotstar for a whopping price. The Mohanlal-starrer is expected to stream on the platform after finishing its theatrical run, mostly by the last week of February or the first week of March 2024. The makers of the film are expected to officially announce the OTT release date of the film with a special update, very soon.
