Ever thought what would happen if Shakespeare’s Macbeth meets Bengal’s favourite detective Byomkesh? The series Mandaar can perhaps give you an example of that. The trailer, unveiled recently, sees so much power and an equally brilliant mind from the police force at work.

Mandaar is officially adapted from Macbeth, the story about a king seeking immense power through killings. Set in Gielpur, the killings begin with a father dying on a beach mysteriously.

The trailer also has a lot of mention of Rakkhosh (monster). While people seek for the monster, Anirban, in the role of a cop, has it all figured out. The same is explained through his last scene in the trailer. The role has a striking similarity with Byomkesh, who too, is a know-it-all.

Various characters on the show believe in killing those who have disappointed them. Owing to that, nobody can figure out who the real killer is. The one certain thing with this trailer is that politics is above everything for each character.

Before Anirban, Bollywood had adapted Macbeth. Vishal Bhardwaj adapted the renowned play into Maqbool, starring Irrfan Khan and Tabu in the lead roles. The film was based on the underworld in Mumbai.

Mandaar, on the other hand, is a fictional story, inspired by real-life characters. The original play, Macbeth, is considered cursed. It has witches in the play, which did not go down well with some people. The lead who played Macbeth in the play too died out of the blue. Owing to that, Macbeth is considered cursed.

Unlike Maqbool, Mandaar appears to stay closer to the script of Macbeth. They have the involvement of monsters et all in the story. Also, this time around, the females appear to be running the game.

Mandaar marks Anirban Bhattacharya’s directorial debut. He has also written the script of the film. Anirban also acts in the series, in the role of a cop. The show, a Hoichoi original, is slated to release on November 19.
