Amazon Prime’s hit crime drama show, The Family Man recently released its second season. Manoj Bajpayee reprised his role of Srikant Tiwari in season two. He was joined by Samantha Akkineni, who plays the role of a Sri-Lankan Tamil rebel. The second season also saw Sharib Hashmi, Priyamani and Sharad Kelkar reprising their respective roles. Even though the show has been applauded for its fresh take and constant wit and action, it has been mired into controversies ever since the release of its trailer.

Mano Thangraj, the Tamil Nadu Minister for Information Technology had called for a ban on the series from the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javdekar. He stated that the Eelam Tamils were projected in a “highly objectionable manner” which could very well be detrimental to the “maintenance of harmony of the state”.

The show has started streaming and has opened to phenomenal reviews. Reacting to the same, Bajpayee stated that he was blown away by the amount of love and appreciation the series seemed to have been receiving from the audiences and is grateful. While responding to the controversy, he emphasised that there wasn’t an attempt to malign any community and that everyone on set loves every culture of India.

“All of us are very responsible people. We love each and every culture of this country, that’s why it’s a truly pan-Indian show. There’s no politics here,” Bajpayee was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times. He added, “My character, Srikant, is as black as he is white. All other characters are completely humanised, and heroes in their own story. So, that way, we were pretty sure that people’s apprehensions and questions will be answered once they watch the show. That’s why I feel the consensus is in our favour.”

The Family Man season two is now airing on Amazon Prime Video and if you want a quick recap of season one, click here.
