The HBO crime drama had raked in 16 nominations at the 73rd edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards, winning four, including Outstanding Lead Actress for Winslet.
Mare of Easttown had certainly caught people’s attention, definitely in part due to Kate Winslet’s hard hitting performance in the HBO limited series. The Academy Award winning actress has recently sought to quell people’s queries about a possible second season of the crime drama.
In a conversation with E! News, the actress revealed how she was caught by surprise at the show’s immense popularity, saying that it felt remarkable how it had caught the attention of people.
On the possibility of a second season, she says that there had been conversations regarding it, although no official confirmation has been given as yet.
She did let out that she herself was thinking about what her character, Mare’s next move might be, but that there can be no definitive answer until a script has been put in place detailing the entire story of what the potential second season might hold.
Winslet also revealed that she didn't think it possible for the makers to match the quality of its stellar first season, instead hoping that they would be able to put forth something that is entertaining enough to captivate the audience. She concluded by saying that in all honesty she did not know what the future holds in case of the show’s second installment.
Mare of Easttown tells the story of a small town detective, Mare Sheehan, who is tasked with investigating a murder case involving the death of a teen mother, all the while having to deal with her own murky personal life. The series also stars Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, Angourie Rice, Evan Peters and Guy Pearce among others, in addition to Kate Winslet.
