Marvel does not waste a single opportunity to publicise their films and the case is no different for its latest addition Black Widow. While there’s still a few months left before the movie is streamed in India, the movie will have an international release on July 9 and ahead of it Marvel released a new clip from the film, where we can see Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow in action, alongside Yelena Belova and Alexei Shostakov, as they attempt a prison break.
A much-awaited movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Black Widow would chronicle Natasha’s journey as she is forced to face her troubled past and mend the rough patches of her relationships. Set in the immediate aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, with the Avengers disbanded and in hiding, Natasha is on the run, having opposed the Sokovia Accords along with Captain America and others.
Although it took a while for her to get a stand-alone movie, the film is expected to provide justice to this loved character portrayed by Johansson, and unravel the mysterious past of Romanoff, long before she became an Avenger, which has been under wraps since the character’s inception in Iron Man 2 in 2010.
With a star-studded cast in place, the movie would introduce multiple new faces into the MCU, including Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff, alongside O-T Fagbenle as Rick Mason and William Hurt.
In the clip, we can see Black Widow and Yelena flying a helicopter, while Alexei Shostakov tries to break free of a prison in the middle of a snowy wilderness. He looks haggard and is covered in tattoos, maybe due to wear after a long incarceration. However, things soon take a wrong turn before Alexei can safely board the helicopter. With other prisoners also escaping into the yard, followed closely by armoured guards who fire what looks like tranquilisers into the crowd, there is the eruption of total chaos. Natasha tells Alexei to go to the upper level of the compound, but before he can escape, a guard stuns him. The clip ends just as he falls from a ledge, landing flat on his back in the dirty snow.
Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow is set to release in India on October 8 on Disney+ Hotstar Premium.
