Masaba Masaba recently returned for another fierce and sassy season of Masaba Gupta and Neena Gupta’s adventures. The series saw the duo play fictionalised versions of themselves and marked Masaba’s debut as an actress. But it seems that Neena was not too keen on seeing her daughter follow her footsteps into show business. Neena recently opened up about how she had initially been sceptical about Masaba starting a career in acting.

In conversation with Mid Day, Neena called herself her daughter’s ‘biggest critic’. The actress spoke of how the criticisms used to make Masaba upset. Neena spoke of how she considered it to be her role as a mother to not hold back on criticising her daughter, and said that she was now able to see that Masaba has potential as an actress. “I was so impressed with her work that I said sorry to her for not letting her act”, said Neena.

Neena went on to speak of how the things she did were always driven by circumstance, both in the past and in the present. The actress said that she tried to be happy with whatever she did, which she believed made her relevant not only to herself, but also to audiences.

Opening up about the new season of Masaba Masaba, Neena talked about how the makers never shied away from showcasing real topics in a sensitive way. The actress spoke of how the show tried to depict how one could share one’s issues with parents and friends. She said that when she was younger, she used to speak to her own mother in a way that was vastly different from how Masaba speaks to her. Neena spoke of how people these days had a tendency to bottle things up, which made their feelings and issues come out later in horrible ways. She hopes that the show’s depiction of a mother-daughter relationship will also help audiences to talk their issues out with their loves ones as well.

The second season of Masaba Masaba is available to stream on Netflix.
