Metro In Dino, featuring Aditya Roy Kapur and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles, is scheduled for theatrical release soon, and one actor dearly missed is late Irrfan Khan. Anurag Basu, who has helmed the sequel of Life In A Metro, has now revealed how the movie was indeed Irrfan's idea. Here's what he said...
Irrfan Khan was keen on seeing the sequel to Life In A Metro. The actor suggested that a sequel be made to the movie which came as a surprise hit back when it released in 2007. Basu told News18, "Post Jagga Jasoos, Irrfan and I were talking about a sequel to Life In A Metro. He, in fact, had given me the idea to start working on it. He told me, ‘Metro 2 banaate hai.’ He told me about it much later, not immediately after the first film." The filmmaker further shunned reports of Metro 3 and said that there are no immediate plans for a trilogy or turning Metro into a franchise.
Although Metro In Dino boasts of a new cast altogether, Konkona Sen Sharma has been retained from the original film to the sequel. While it is still not clear whether her role is reprised, the actor has often stated that she misses her co-star Irrfan dearly, more so now, when Metro In Dino is scheduled for release.
Directed by Anurag Basu, Metro In Dino sees Aditya Roy Kapur-Sara Ali Khan as one couple, Ali Fazal-Fatima Sana Shaikh as the other, Konkona is paired with Pankaj Tripathi, while Neena Gupta is seen opposite both Anupam Kher as well as Saswata Chatterjee. The movie will release in theatres on July 4, 2025.
