Mistry is an upcoming crime series on JioHotstar starring Ram Kapoor and Mona Singh. The series will be released on June 27. Ahead of it, Ram was dropped from all Mistry promotional activities after his sexually inappropriate remarks, leading his co-star Mona to do solo interviews.
During the media promotions for Mistry that took place in a Mumbai hotel last Thursday (June 19), Ram Kapoor and Mona Singh attended several interviews throughout the day. During the evening, Ram reportedly made repeated comments about kissing a male executive from the show's marketing team, and also implied that his mother 'should have gone to sleep' instead of conceiving him.
A JioHotstar insider revealed, “The tone and content of his ‘jokes’ were unprofessional. He had back-to-back interviews that day. Referring to the work pressure at one point, he said he feels ‘gang-raped’. This remark was made while one journalist was setting up her mic.”
One of the executives recounted that Ram looked at his colleague’s dress and, referring to its length, said, ‘The clothes are distracting.’” Another worker said the group was shocked by the amount of offensive things he said under the guise of humour throughout the day.
“It didn’t hit immediately, but when it did later that evening, we started recounting the number of offensive things he said. He told one of our male colleagues that his mother should have faked a headache and he shouldn’t have been born. He made references to sex positions,” the staff said.
Following his offensive remarks, on Friday evening, Mona alone took part in the interviews. An insider told HT that after the matter went too far, the actor was asked not to participate in the campaign.
Mid-Day quoted a source from JioHotstar, as saying, “This workplace prioritises dignity and safety. After a complaint was formally raised and the incidents corroborated by eyewitnesses, the leadership moved promptly. The platform wants to distance itself from any behaviour that normalises workplace misconduct. The interviews are being held solely with Mona.”
Meanwhile, Mistry is the official adaptation of the Emmy Award-winning series, Monk. The show is set to stream on June 27 on JioHotstar.
