Pratik Gandhi, who stars in Hansal Mehta-directed short of Modern Love: Mumbai, recently opened up about sharing the screen space with veteran actress Tanuja.
Pratik stars in “Baai” where he plays a closeted gay man attempting to come out to his grandmother, whom he affectionately refers to as Baai. Joining them in this story is chef Ranveer Brar as Pratik’s on screen love interest.
On working with Tanuja, the actor shared an anecdote from the set with The Indian Express: “She is what charisma is described as. She just lights up the screen. The first scene that we had together, we had to go up almost four flights of stairs. The building was without a lift and quite old, with steep stairs. I thought she must have got tired but as the camera started rolling, her energy level was on a different high. I just couldn’t take my eyes off her.”
Meanwhile, the actor also spoke about working with his Scam 1992 director again. He described the entire period of shooting with the filmmaker as a “smooth experience.”
Modern Love: Mumbai is among the 80 new titles that Amazon Prime announced in April. It is based on the New York Times weekly column of true stories, which was later adapted into a series format. Modern Love also has a Chennai and Hyderabad version that will soon hit the streamer.
Pratik also mentioned that many people did not anticipate him to take on this part given his past experience in a variety of demanding roles. According to him, "this is the fun part," since performers are permitted to play with all types of roles and human emotions.
After Scam 1992 put him on the map, Pratik was seen in Gujarati series Vitthal Teedhi (on OHO Gujarati) followed by The Great Indian Murder (on Disney+ Hotstar). He made his Hindi feature debut with Bhavai, a musical drama also starring Aindrita Ray.
All episodes of Modern Love: Mumbai are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
